What benefits does your participation in COVESA bring to your company and business?

HARMAN has been a member of GENIVI, the predecessor organization of COVESA for many years. Our overall software strategy aligns well with actively engaging at and supporting COVESA. Participating as a charter member demonstrates the high importance that we see in standardizing connected vehicle technologies with an open and collaborative environment. We believe that scaling through standardization is a key success factor for automotive technologies, business models and consumer satisfaction.

What benefits does your participation in COVESA bring to your company and business?

The automotive industry is undergoing a huge transformation as consumer expectations for real-time, connected experiences continue to rise. Automakers and suppliers are under more pressure than ever to evolve their vehicles from mechanical objects to fully software-defined devices. Consumers expect their vehicles to mirror their technology habits outside the car with experiences that are hyper-personalized and deliver new levels of connectivity, productivity, and safety. Achieving that level of capability is no small task. It changes the way stakeholders need to collaborate and requires automakers to completely rethink the underlying electronic architecture of their vehicles. HARMAN will bring its deep automotive expertise in hardware and software to COVESA and share the outcomes of our collaborative work to all stakeholders.

Which COVESA collaborative project(s) or Birds of a Feather (BoF) is your company engaged in and why is that beneficial to your business?

We see many areas to collaborate, such as:

  • The AOSP App Framework Standardization and supporting dedicated group activities like “Push Notifications.”
  • Harmonizing activities around the topic “Feature on Demand.”
  • HARMAN has developed an AAOS-based App Emulator, and we aim to explore how to integrate this expertise into COVESA and share the knowledge effectively.
  • Unlocking the power of data and telematics services for single vehicles and for fleet operations.

“We see COVESA as a leading global platform for standardization, where members collaborate in a trusted, respectful, and forward-looking environment. Rather than a battleground of competing interests, COVESA fosters a powerful collective of automotive experts, each benefitting from the shared expertise of others. This spirit of collaboration is what HARMAN is eager to be part of.”
