Cox Automotive, the world’s largest and most complete automotive services provider, joined COVESA this year as a core member and impressed the judges with its innovative approach. As COVESA Executive Director Steve Crumb noted, “The Cox Automotive showcase was more of a story than a demonstration.”

Under the Cox Automotive umbrella are several data-driven businesses, including AutoTrader, Kelley Blue Book, and Manheim Auctions. Cox Automotive leverages COVESA’s Vehicle Signal Specification (VSS) to normalize cross-brand vehicle data, enabling essential insights for these businesses. The award recognizes Cox Automotive’s use of VSS as a common data pipeline for its resale commercial offerings.

    Virtual Vehicle Research

Virtual Vehicle Research, Europe’s largest research center for virtual vehicle development, equally impressed the review team with its commitment to open standards. Their demonstration showcased the adoption of two COVESA technologies:

    • COVESA’s open-source implementation of the IEEE 1722 protocol for streaming audio/video, tunneling CAN/LIN messages, and enabling remote access to peripherals.
    • VSS for driver identification and personalized mood lighting based on preferences.

These companies received the awards at the recent All Member Meeting (AMM) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. These awards are given at every AMM since Spring 2024, and recognize organizations that have demonstrated exceptional innovation, adoption, and contribution to COVESA technologies and community with the COVESA Adopter & Contributor Awards.

Join us in celebrating our award winners! We’ll see you at the next AMM, and we look forward to seeing your innovations and contributions.
