What does your company do? What services or products do you provide?  

Operated by Invest Ottawa, Area X.O is the R&D complex in Canada’s capital that enables and accelerates the safe and secure development, testing, and adoption of next-generation smart mobility, autonomy, and connectivity technologies. Area X.O helps startups, SMEs, multinationals, and governments address challenges and opportunities, and get to market faster. Operating one of the most advanced communications infrastructures in the world, Area X.O is the only all-weather R&D complex of its kind in North America.

These applications benefit our community, economy, and environment, and span telecom, smart agriculture, defense, security and public safety, unmanned aerial vehicles, and smart cities. Area X.O leverages critical support from world-class founding partners, including the Government of Canada (through FedDev Ontario), the Government of Ontario (through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network managed by the Ontario Centre of Innovation), the City of Ottawa, Accenture, BlackBerry QNX, Ericsson, Microsoft, Nokia, and Ottawa’s post-secondary institutions. www.AreaXO.com   

Why did you join COVESA and how long has your company been a member?

Area X.O works with public and private sector clients within the smart mobility sector to test, harden, and validate cutting-edge innovations that provide opportunities for the automotive industry. Area X.O is a member of COVESA in order to work collectively with the global automotive community to address the opportunities and challenges in the automotive industry in order to drive awareness and opportunity for companies within the smart mobility sector in Ottawa and the surrounding region. Area X.O has been a member for the past three years.

What benefits does your participation in COVESA bring to your company and business? 

Area X.O is a proud member of COVESA as membership provides Area X.O the opportunity to showcase our unique R&D complex and to build mutually beneficial relationships and projects with other COVESA members.
