What does your company do? What services or products do you provide?

Born from a management buyout in 2018, VNC Automotive has been perfectly placed to ride the growing wave of advanced entertainment and navigation technologies that today’s cars employ.

Headquartered in one of the world’s largest technology clusters in Cambridge, UK, we offer an end-to-end service, from proof-of-concept to technology delivery and through into production.

This has resulted in a demand for VNC Automotive’s expertise that has exceeded expectations, and its technology is already integrated within more than 35 million vehicles.

Beyond consumer vehicles, we are established in the emergency services sector which allowed us to develop and launch our first hardware product in 2021.

The compact but powerful Cobalt Cube® streamlines system integration for fleets of vehicles used by emergency services sectors, utility companies and numerous specialist applications. Systems such as ANPR, light bars and sirens, cameras, tablets, PC’s and phones can all be controlled through the built-in dashboard display, taking advantage of a vehicle’s optimised ergonomics.

PC-based applications, meanwhile, can interact with responders through the vehicle’s touchscreen while the bulky hardware remains safely and securely mounted out of sight (for example in the rear of the vehicle).

VNC Automotive tracks where in-vehicle technology is heading, uses its knowhow in other sectors to bring advanced technologies to play in new and innovative ways. This includes promising markets such as off-highway and agriculture, which offer fascinating opportunities. Applications such as crop planning and harvesting are already being streamlined by advances to GPS and connectivity, but autonomous functionality offers huge potential.

Why did you join COVESA, and how long has your company been a member?

VNC Automotive joined COVESA in 2026 to collaborate more closely with the organizations shaping the future of connected vehicles. As vehicles become increasingly software-defined and connected, we see significant value in industry collaboration around interoperability, user experience, data, connectivity and application ecosystems.

COVESA brings together OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and technology providers from across the automotive industry, creating an environment where knowledge, ideas and best practices can be shared openly.

For VNC, membership provides an opportunity to contribute our expertise in screen integration, connected services, and device-to-vehicle technologies, while learning from others across the ecosystem.

What benefits does your participation in COVESA bring to your company and business?

Being a member of COVESA and participating in their events gives us access to experts in the field of connected vehicles. Having the opportunity to engage with OEMs, Tier 1s, platform providers, and other technology companies helps us stay closely aligned with evolving industry needs.

Participation in COVESA events and working groups provides valuable insight into emerging trends, technical challenges, and future vehicle architectures. These conversations help inform our product strategy and ensure our solutions continue to address real-world customer requirements.

Membership also creates opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and partnership development across the wider automotive ecosystem. Just as importantly, it allows us to contribute our own experience and perspective, helping move the industry forward through open collaboration.

Which COVESA collaborative project(s) or Birds of a Feather (BoF) is your company engaged in, and why is that beneficial to your business?

As a relatively new member, we’ve participated in our first COVESA event and have already seen the value of engaging with the wider community. We’re looking forward to becoming more involved in future events, working groups, and collaborative discussions across the organization.

In particular, we’re keen to engage with conversations around the Automotive AOSP App Framework, given the growing importance of application ecosystems, interoperability and user experiences within connected vehicles.

We’re also interested in the broader software-defined vehicle (SDV) discussions taking place across COVESA, as vehicle architectures continue to evolve and become increasingly software-centric.

These forums provide an excellent opportunity to learn from OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and fellow technology providers, while sharing our own experience in screen integration, connectivity, and cross-platform user experiences.

For VNC Automotive, participation helps us stay aligned with industry direction, build relationships across the ecosystem, and identify opportunities where our expertise can contribute to future connected vehicle solutions.
