What does your company do? What services or products do you provide?  

Xouba Ingeniería, S.L. (Xouba) is a consulting and data analytics firm dedicated to making roads safer and more efficient by leveraging connected mobility data.

We combine deep civil engineering expertise (over 15 years in road maintenance) with advanced data science to provide proactive solutions for road authorities. We serve national, regional, provincial, and municipal road agencies across Spain, holding active contracts with over 10 major authorities, including the Ministry of Transport and large municipalities like Madrid and Vigo.

Our core services move road management from reactive to predictive:

Predictive Road Safety: Analyzing connected vehicle data (hard braking, speed, safety systems use) to identify and anticipate high-risk accident areas, working towards Vision Zero.

Mobility Solutions: Using mobility datasets to define origin-destination patterns and optimize traffic flow and signal management.

Road Maintenance Optimization: Providing actionable insights from connected car data to monitor infrastructure health (e.g., potholes, lane conditions) for efficient, cost-saving operations.

Why did you join COVESA, and how long has your company been a member?

Xouba joined COVESA approximately two years ago to actively participate in shaping the future of the connected data ecosystem. Our primary motivation is to represent the vital perspective of road operators and infrastructure managers. By collaborating directly with automotive OEMs and data providers, we ensure that the connected vehicle data streams we rely on for road safety and maintenance are standardized, accessible, and structured in a way that maximizes their value for the public good.

What benefits does your participation in COVESA bring to your company and business? 

Our participation in COVESA yields significant competitive advantages:

Access to Standards: We gain a crucial head start in adopting and influencing open standards, particularly the Vehicle Data Model (VDM), which ensures our predictive and analytic solutions are compatible, scalable, and future-proof across the industry.

Industry Collaboration: COVESA is the primary platform connecting us directly with the automotive ecosystem (OEMs, Tier 1s, data brokers). This collaboration is essential for securing, understanding, and integrating the high-quality connected car data that fuels our core business models.

Driving Innovation: We leverage the platform to share our unique expertise in combining data analysis with road engineering, co-developing innovative technologies that translate in-vehicle data into tangible, life-saving infrastructure improvements.

Which COVESA collaborative project(s) or Birds of a Feather (BoF) is your company engaged in, and why is that beneficial to your business?

In the future, we’d like to be engaged in and strategically focused on the following projects: Vehicle Data Model (VDM) Project. This engagement is critical as it is the foundation for our entire service portfolio. By participating, we ensure the Vehicle Data Model explicitly includes and standardizes key road condition data (e.g., from suspension, ABS/ESP activity) and driver behavior metrics (e.g., hard braking events). This makes the raw data directly usable for our predictive road safety models and maintenance dashboards.

And anything related to road safety: working towards Vision Zero.
