Introducing the COVESA Generative AI Project
Shaping the Future of AI-Assisted Automotive Development
Share
COVESA is excited to announce the launch of the Generative AI Project, a new industry-wide initiative bringing together automotive leaders, tool vendors, and technology providers to transform how AI is used across the automotive development lifecycle.
Why We’re Doing This
Generative AI is rapidly reshaping automotive engineering, yet today’s tools often operate in silos. Requirements platforms, modeling tools, testing systems, and validation environments rarely allow AI assistants to work together seamlessly.
The mission is simple and ambitious: make Gen AI tooling interoperable, standardized, and accessible across the entire automotive V-model, from requirements through homologation.
By building open standards for Gen AI tool integration, leveraging technologies like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) collaboration, the project aims to create a connected ecosystem where AI agents can support every stage of development.
What the Generative AI Project Does
🤝 Unite the Ecosystem
Bring together OEMs, suppliers, tool vendors, and AI platform providers to create shared, open standards.
📋 Define Capabilities
Document what Gen AI tools should expose, from simple CRUD operations to advanced services like validation, conflict detection, and intelligent suggestions.
💻 Build Reference Implementations
Deliver open-source templates and examples that tool vendors can adopt to accelerate AI-enabled tool integration.
🔗 Align With Industry Standards
Supports established frameworks such as AUTOSAR, ISO 26262, and ASPICE, ensuring safety and compliance remain central.
Approach
We map our work to each stage of the automotive V-Model:
- Requirements Management: smarter, more traceable requirements
- System Modeling: AI-assisted architecture design
- Implementation & Coding: intelligent code generation and review
- Integration & Validation: automated test generation and failure analysis
- Homologation: streamlined certification workflows
Who’s Involved
Members represent the breadth of the automotive ecosystem:
Automotive Leaders: Stellantis, Rivian, ZF Group, AAM, IAV
Tool Vendors: useblocks, aicas, Synopsys, GitHub, Microsoft
Solution Providers: RopixTech, VxLabs, SDverse, Modernize.io, Smart, Encode
